Zambia is located in south-central Africa.  It is about 2-1/2 times the size of the state of Texas.  Global Samaritans Children's Home is located between the city of Livingstone on the southern border and Lusaka (the Capital) about 8 hours drive.  Zambia is an arid country with terrain ranging from flat plains to rugged mountains.  On the border with Zimbabwe along the Great Zambezi River is Victoria Falls.  Discovered in 1855 by David Livingstone, Victoria Falls is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World.  It is 2 miles wide and varies from almost dry to a raging torrent during the rainy season.  There are only (3) seasons in Zambia - the Cold/Dry Winter, the Hot/Dry Summer and the Warm/Wet Rainy season.  The humidity seldom gets above 30% throughout the year.  The winters are mild and the summers are very hot.

Zambia is a democracy and elects a president from 34 distinct political parties.  Zambia gained independence from the British in 1964.  English has recently been deemed the Official Language..."the best thing the Brits left us".
There are 12.6 million people living in Zambia.  68% of the population live below the poverty level.  Mostly subsistence farmers, the average wage is under $2.00/day.  15.2% of the population has AIDS.  The AIDS death rate is 9th in the world.  The average age is 45.9 years and the probability of NOT reaching the age of 40 ranks 1st in the world.

Due to the horrible AIDS epidemic, there are over 600,000 children who are orphaned as a result of AIDS.  Global Samaritans Children's Home is designed to house and nurture children in this category.
